David Gurzhiev is a first-generation Ukrainian American photographer based in Brooklyn, New York. Born and raised in Aurora, Colorado, he grew up surrounded by his family, who emigrated from the Soviet Union and settled in Denver. Their presence profoundly shaped how he sees the world and what he chooses to photograph.

Gurzhiev's work explores his upbringing as the child of Soviet immigrants, navigating the complexities of family, memory, and belonging. His photographs seek to preserve what feels fleeting, to hold onto life even as it slips away, and to understand how personal history shapes who we become.

He is based in Los Angeles and New York City.
